Mortgage rates fought back last week, but it won’t be enough to put out the dumpster fire which has been burning in the bond market since July.
In addition to Wednesday’s Consumer Price Index (CPI), Thursday brings a double dose of Fed manufacturing surveys, followed by PPI and Retail Sales data.
Each report could reignite the bond selloff, further scorching mortgage rates.
There is also a “fireside” chat with Kevin Warsh, giving the new Fed Chair a chance to save the day if the first half of the week goes up in flames.
However, let’s be honest … no hero can save us if inflation really brings the heat.
